Why is Neck Lift Surgery Performed?
Neck lift surgery is performed to address sagging skin in the neck area, which can be caused by relaxation of the platysma muscle and growth of the subcutaneous fat pad. Other reasons for neck lift surgery include a smaller-than-normal jaw skeleton, sagging of salivary glands, and enlargement.
How is Neck Lift Surgery Performed?
The neck lift procedure involves a patient assessment and evaluation process. If the patient experiences issues in their social life or personal evaluations, appropriate action is taken.
- Before the operation, plastic surgeons assess whether there are any conditions that could hinder the procedure. Neck stretching can be achieved using various techniques, and the procedures are performed under general anesthesia.
- In neck lift surgery using the face lift method, stretching may occur in front of and behind the ear. The neck skin and sagging muscles are separated and sutured. If excess fat removal is not required, the procedure focuses solely on addressing sagging skin. An incision behind the ear is made, which is an uncertain aspect of the procedure.
- Another method involves the under-chin incision technique, where a few centimeters of incision are made and the fat tissue beneath the muscle is reduced. Reshaping in neck lift procedures heavily relies on the platysma muscle. This under-chin operation is more commonly performed on young men.
In neck lift procedures involving liposuction, fat is removed from the neck area and under the chin. Small incisions are made, and vacuum suction is performed using a cannula. Once the neck area is reshaped, the incisions are closed with sutures.
Recovery After Neck Lift Surgery

The duration of corset usage may vary depending on the neck stretching method employed. If additional procedures are performed, the recovery period may be longer.
During the first few days after the neck lift operation, it is important to avoid movements that stretch the neck and chin area. Pain medication should be used as prescribed to manage any discomfort in the operation area. Neck lift surgery scars may fade within a few months, but their visibility can persist longer. Concealed neck lift procedures tend to yield more favorable results.
